Smooth Operator by Kassy Windus
“The Inspiration for this dress was sparked when I was introduced to a very worn piece of sandpaper. I thought the sandpaper had a great rustic feel. I knew I could turn it into a creation that didn’t look rough at all. I also thought this sandpaper has a great story within the time and experience it gathered being an industrial tool. There is an abundance of love that has gone into making the rough, smooth for thousands of family’s to enjoy.”
Old worn out of sheets of sandpaper transform this rough matter into a glamorous dress with a dash of flapper. A base of paper packing material lines and stabilizes the stiff sandpaper, and broken cables create straps as well as to outline the form.

“Art has always been present in my life. I have always found excitement in making nothing into something. Curiosity is so important to a lovely life. I make it a point to stay curious, especially when it comes to art. I have been a self-taught seamstress since the age of 13. I Love making clothes and accessories for myself and others to enjoy. Currently I have my creations for sale at Rescue Consignment. From sewing to hula hooping it’s all in the creative spectrum. Each and every one of us have a passion that we share with each other, from a great story to something you created, this is what keeps inspiration for the craft pouring in day after day.”
Kassy has produced creative garments for Rubbish Renewed in the past. Always chic and impeccably made. We are thrilled she and Natural Edge are donating this piece to our fundraising auction. This is a show stopper!
